Checking everyone age to see who mostly gets chiari or finds out when they have it.
Once you choose hope, anything's possible.

I was diagnosed at 39 and turned 40 6 weeks after decompression surgery.....in hindsight, probably been experiencing symptoms for 5 to 6 years previously.

Hello------I was 49 when Dx and 55 when I had PFD. I've had some problems most of my life, but a bad rear in MVA that started most of my problems. The Dr said it was whip-lass that caused the problems to manifest. I'am now 57,and i think Ros is about the same age as myself.

Later...GBWY... Jerry in Carolina...

I first found out that I had Chiari at age 20, after a very very severe car accident. Looking back, I did have some symptoms before the accident, but they really all showed up in force in the months following the accident... That was 7 years ago now!

I was diagnosed at 53 and had surgery just before the 54th. But I can remember symptoms dating back to grade school. They got progressively worse in my late 40's and after surgery for skin cancer I finally listened to my body and did something about the symtoms. I lucked out with a correct diagnosis of chiari the first time I visited a ns unlike many others who seem to go years without being correctly diagnosed.

Hi

I'm now 56 - but acm was found 20 years ago per MRI in 1988 .

I'd had some symtpoms as LONG as I can recall = clearly present by kindergarten =worse during the next few years , things like walking uphill in elem . age was already difficult /and physicians couldn't figure out why in those days .

Let me add I do have EDS too = It's my best guess now it was mostly eds impacts I noticed ( and definitly EDS impacts that they did treat over and over = things like joint issues , also stuff related to the congential bottom of the spine issues that I did have surgery on three times before reaching 21 .

I was told later by TCI , UCLA ect neurosurgeons it can also be assumed my acm was worse before the lower spine surgerys ( problems found did go clear into the cord entwinement end of the spectrum ) ... they could really only guess at it ( and told me my acm is sort of a 1 1/2 acm about 10 years ago now = I've more recently seen that term 1 1/2 used in a journal article where it seemed to ME they were discribing a differant end of the acm spectrum than I do have = a bit confusing honestly .

For what ever worth it might have in trying to determine this 1 1/2 acm catagory - I did have a dermal sinus tract sort of problem / but no opening fully through to outside the skin = massive infection caused a big big goose egg sized lump =but nothing coming through until surgically lanced . - the problem did extend into the base of the cord area = nerve roots were entwined in some sort of "tumor " type tissue removed during the third surgery since the whole problem kept getting infected every year or so = and returning to a larger extent each time ./ = the doctor did NOT expect the problem he found ( pre mri = I don't think he realised at all it could have been immaged to his advantage prior to surgery through mylogram for example , he thought it was a very different =simpler problem going in .
