Crafts or Hobbies anyone?

Postby TiffanyO » Tue May 05, 2009 8:57 am

Hi, just curious...

Do you have a hobby?

What is it?

Do you do any crafts?

What are they?

I have done cross stitching, silk flower arrangements, taught myself basic crochet and other kids crafts stuff.
Problem is I start so many I never get one completed for a long time.

Rugby, Homebrewing Beer and Wine, Gardening, Skydiving, bungee jumping, watching the yard go to hell

Too bad I've only been able to do one of these since my accident.

I'm getting more into woodworking. Its quicker than lots of the things you listed. I can build a planter box or chair in hours. being on my hands and knees painting was not good Monday night. I need to remember to sit down rather than kneel.

I've been thinking of building an airplane. The kits are kind of easy and most of the work is light (aluminum). I was going to rebuild an old car but was talked out of it with many parts being too heavy

Homebrewing (beer/wine), soap/lotion making, gardening for wildlife (birds, inc hummers), love to play with my dh tools and make nesting boxes, hiking, geocaching and I am planning on backpacking for the first time this Summer if my pain allows. I will be an ULTRA LIGHT BACKPACKER going solo.

Scrapbooking is my hobby! I enjoy going back through my pictures and putting them in albums for my family to enjoy. :)

How do you get around the weight issues of 5 or 6 gallon batches (45lbs) in carboys?

Nothing dirty here, but I do pole dancing and i LOVE it!
its really great for the body, for stretching, and really great for building core strength !

my pole was only $125 and i think every woman should have one
not for any perverted reasons, but just because its really great excercise, and you can't really overdo it because its only your own strength !

i cant do gymnastics, but this is satisfying :)

i can do lots of neat tricks and took no lessons. so much enjoyment from it :)

I like to rescue animals.I get them all over a find the right homes fore them.

My current project is a 8 week old Jack Russell/Poodle mix. She 3/4. black with brown, and white feet and tail. She also has a blue gray mask kinda like the cartoon dog"Bandit"

I've turned down two families because (no kids)and the dog would have to be crated for 12 or more hours a day. I'm looking for a young family with children to love a baby puppy.

She was born to a Ferrel dog(Mother Jack Russell) and Dad was a tame black poodle and was born under a stack of old tin at the farm.I know this will work out,with faith, things usually do;

I'm also a bowling coach but don't have the patience I used to have.

Later...Jerry...

I view hobbies as those things that bring a light to my eyes:

New Mexico Spanish-colonial tinwork (my hammers and mallets weigh between 2 oz ad 2 lbs)

Playing the piano and organ (yes, I can still do most of the fancy footwork involved in playing classical organ - SM hasn't robbed me of that yet!!!).

Singing

Sudoku puzzles

Reading

I haven't gotten to spend very much time on my hobbies the past few years, between working full time (until I was too ill to do so any longer) and having sole responsibility (PoA/Guardianship) for two frail, elderly parents in a nearby nursing home...

My hobbies:
collecting antique books-pre 1920s
baking
crossword puzzles
yard sales
I also bird watch. I am part of a group called Celebrate Urban Birds. What I do is observe birds for a certain amount of time each day and gather data on them (what types, how mant, weather, etc). I then enter this information into the Cornell University website.

I've recently purchased supplies to start Sumi-e (japenese ink painting). Have not started it yet but will get the time soon.
Has anyone else worked with this?
