Time for benefits review...

Postby debbarker12 » Wed Oct 03, 2012 5:17 pm

I was awarded my disability on October 1st of 2010. When my approval letter came in the mail it said that my case would be reviewed again in 18 months...thanks to the state paid "specialist" who stated on record that my condition is expected to improve. Having Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Syringomyelia, I was clearly
Shocked to hear this! Maybe this "specialist" should be running the clinical trials and research for us if he knows we are going to improve, right?!? What's his secret? Lol. Ok, enough sarcasm. Here is my issue.

My notice came in the mail last week for my Continuing Disability Review and I am so scared that I will be denied! What kinds of things do I put in my paperwork to help my case?? Have any of you ever had your benefits stopped? I haven't improved, is that enough?!? Please help!!! I have been having nonstop panic attacks since the packet arrived and I need advice.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.

Hi Deb! Fortunately I have not had a review, but I think that the fact that you have not improved will definately help your case. If I were you, I would gather all of my dr. visit info in the past couple of years (all years since you were first approved). If you had a lawyer the first time, I would call him/her to see if they could help you out any. Sorry that I can't give you any advice from experience. I will be hoping & praying that you do not get denied this time and that you will have some peace about this. Keep us informed as to how it turns out. Best wishes!

Deb, have you been seeing a doctor for your disabling condition since you were approved? If so, that will go a long way toward approval. I guess there are people who get approval, and then stop seeing their doctor (not a good idea) because they think they no longer need to. That's just the sort of thing they look for when determining continuing disability status.

I recommend just staying calm and getting all of your medical records together since you were approved. That includes all prescriptions you take relating to your disability. A real pain in the arse, but necessary. Good luck dear.
