Epidural questions

Postby Metalmommy » Mon Sep 17, 2012 10:35 pm

Hi again. I know I am posting quite a bit, sorry this is all very new to me. Background info, I have a syrinx from T1-T5 and bulging discs from T6-T9. I am in a lot of pain, and have started to have neurological symptoms. I went to pain management was put on lyrica and he said something about discussing an epidural for the bulging discs. My question is can an epidural be done that close to a syrinx? Is it going to complicate my syrinx, or possibly not work because of it? I am terrified of having a needle stuck in my back that close to my syrinx, and the pain management guy does not specialize in syringomyelia. I will bring this up with my neurosurgeon (I have yet to see one, will be going next week) but I wondered if anyone has had experience with a similar situation.

I know some are very against epidurals. This question has been asked multiple times at the conferences and the doctors always say the same thing. If it is done correctly = no problem.

Good luck finding out. I've had two epidurals, but not close to where my syrinx is.
